Believe it or not, my infant daughter was the reason I finally completed my first novel.
My story began much the same as every author's story: I've wanted to write since I was a child. I then married the man of my dreams and had nine (soon to be ten) children.
I had about given up on my dream of writing, but my ninth child made it possible. How, might you ask? My ninth child, Esther, had a strange preference when it came to her nap times: she would only nap in my arms. It had to be my arms, not my husband's or anyone else's, and she would wake the moment I put her down. Not only that, she had to have complete quiet. We tried everything, and we finally accepted it would be a daily routine for me to hold her as soon as I arrived home from work while my husband watched our other children.
In the quiet of my rocking chair, with my sleeping baby in my arms, I found I had a lot of time to browse my phone that I never had before. I wanted something to show for that time. Before I knew it, I had written a whole novel on Google Docs on my phone. Strangely enough, as soon as I was so deep into my story I couldn't stop myself if I tried, my infant daughter suddenly decided to nap like a normal baby. It was almost as though she behaved that way to push me into writing. I've always believed that everything happens for a reason. Now, I have not only written a complete novel, but I am in the process of writing two more. Whether I have to get up early or write in the middle of the night, writing has become so much a part of me that I wonder what I ever did without it. My first novel, Lady Unknown, will be ready to release soon. After many rounds of editing and the valuable feedback from my author friends, my book is now with beta readers. It's always a scary thing to publish the contents of your imagination, but the more I pursue this dream, the more sure I am about this new journey of mine. I look forward to sharing my first novel with you and many more to come.
