I couldn't be more thrilled that my novelette, The Manhunt, won the Silver Typewriter award at Quills this year!
He’s an officer on the verge of catching a criminal he’s been hunting for a year. She’s a spinster on a manhunt of her own.
This novelette is available to newsletter subscribers for free! Below is a teaser:
“Why aren’t you married?” Sam blurted, shocked that he’d voiced his question.
“I didn't have the opportunity I waited for.”
She never had an offer? His jaw dropped, and she, unfortunately, seemed to notice. She bit her lip, a smile breaking through and making her all the more beautiful. Her looks certainly weren’t the reason for her lack of marriage offers, but perhaps her stubbornness repelled men. He was willing to bet she was assertive at home. No amount of good looks could atone for constant nagging.
Her smile faltered, and Sam realized he was scowling. He softened his face, suddenly wanting to apologize for thinking such thoughts, even if she hadn’t heard them. “I’m just surprised no one has asked for your hand.”
“I never said I didn’t have offers. I simply never met the right man—before, that is.” Her voice softened, and she looked down, a blush coloring her cheeks. “The man God intends.”
Surely she didn’t think that Sam was the man God intended. Yet, she had claimed God called her in this direction. Perhaps she hoped for a wedding ring in return for helping him catch Brackett. Perhaps Miss Wesley was on a manhunt of her own.
But he would not be the prey.
